So, reading through my coin book, I have noticed that the RCM produced a few thousand 1/4oz gold M7 privy coins for MDM.de in the years 2005, 2006 and 2007. Very cool and interesting coins.

This weekend I spoke with a dealer out of Florida who informed me that a very small number of M7 test pieces were struck in 2004 as well. I can't find any information on this at all. Does anyone know anything about this?

During my research, I have noticed a few 1/10th gold coins (2016 dated) have been distributed in M7 capsules but do not have the privy mark. See appended photo.

I would, yes. I find them very difficult to acquire in high grades and I love the thrill of the hunt!

FOUND ONE! Has anybody ever seen one of these in hand! I love digging up these new discoveries! Especially after being ignorant to the fact that this coin has even existed ... 14 years later!

What an absolutely undiscovered gem!!

There is a minimum amount needed by the RCM before they would mint these private privy marks coins, proably could get the figures from the RCM as a new customer.

I will give them a call tomorrow ... but to be completely honest, I rarely find them helpful or informative.

That's completely true, but if you pretend you are an interested bullion or a company that wishes to have a privy marked coin as employee gifts they probably tell you minimum amounts needed, I once read the figures some where, I think it was JM who had a silver ANA coin done it was 5000 if I remember correctly

There are a few other gold privy mark coins with extremely low mintages as well that I keep on my radar. Ones that come to mind include the 2014 G$5 Horse Double Privy (app. 250), 2007 T/E G$200 Privy (app. 500), 2012 G$50 5th Anniversary Privy (app. 543), 2011 G$50 100 year privy (app. 479), 1999 G$50 Colourized 20 year privy (app. 500), and G$10 Liberation Privy (app. 500).

The 2004 M7 Privy, whether commissioned or simply a test strike, is a brand new find for me. I am excited to find out that it even exists. I wish more of this type of material would turn up on ebay.

According to Wikipedia, mintage of the 2004 M7 1/4 oz gold privy maple is only 10 pieces. I do see one on ebay for what I would consider a bargain, but the collector market on these coins is very thin.

to JGG,
you refer to a 2012 $50 5th anniversary privy, I'm just curious what does that coin look like with the privy? I've seen the 5th anniversary set but no privy on the coin. Where can I find one of those? I love the maple leafs with privys.
Thanks

Here is a photo, although the resolution isn't the greatest

It might be a misnomer on my part, but I am referring to the commemorative date on the top of the coin. Sometimes the graders consider the commemorative date to be a privy and sometimes not. NGC considers the 2011 fractional gold set to be privy marked, but not the 2012 set. Which I don't get. PCGS says neither are. ANACS says they both are. ICCS, I don't know. I never send anything to ICCS anymore because everything would come back overhandled. For i.e., fingerprints on brand new proof coins. Or brand new mint packaged coins grading PF66.

ah ok thanks for the photo. I've seen that coin but never would've considered the commemorative date to be a privy. It's funny how there seems to be different definitions and interpertations of privy marks. The other amzing thing is for some reason it seems like we can't get an exact mintage number for a lot of the privy coins.

Does anyone by any chance know how many of the 2001 $10 gml with basel privy were minted? I haven't seen one in a long time

There were 750 of the basle coins. They are hard to find. The basle privy, liberation privy, and expo privy were only released in Europe and most of those have been melted into Good Delivery Bars as per Eric Sprott's research on gold leasing and European gold coin minting.

Gold coins used to be considered 'investment grade' but the upgrade to Basel III banking rules states that only Good Delivery Bars are considered a Tier 1 asset. Hence the melting spree. Here are the rules for Tier 1 gold investment;

Basic specifications Edit

Gold bars Edit
Fineness: minimum of 995.0 parts per thousand fine gold
Marks: serial number, refiner's hallmark, fineness, year of manufacture
Gold content: 350-430 troy ounces (11-13 kg)
Recommended dimensions
Length (top): 210-290 millimetres (8.3-11.4 inches)
Width (top): 55-85 millimetres (2.2-3.3 inches)
Height: 25-45 millimetres (0.98-1.77 inches)
