Possible Repunched Mint Mark / RPM On 1989 D Washington Quarter?

Normally would think it's just normal PMD but because there's a known rpm for this year and the fact there seems to be a lot of material in that area I thought maybe I'd get some opinions on it. When I compared it to a regular mm from that year it just seems like there wouldn't be so much material to cause it to look like this way if it was a single stamp. As always thanks for the info. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 04/15/2018 10:09 pm Looks like a post that is falling apart on the center of the mint mark. Most has broken of, but not all of it yet. Thus the central area is filling up with in formed stock material because of the void on the die. Report this Post to the Staff

I just thought this one was a little different because of the amount of material and no noticable areas where maybe a coin smashed it down. I compared it to a known d mintmark for that year and it just didn't look like it would have that ship and thickness from just PMD. But what you said @coop about maybe a broken die makes a lot more sense. Either way it looks cool and will def go in with my keepers. Thanks for the info guys Report this Post to the Staff
