Ghost Lettering Or Numerals/ 43 S Half

radatat Valued Member United States 492 Posts	Posted 04/16/2018 4:57 pm When I first started collecting a few years back, a buddy showed me a coin with a number in it that I could hardly see. I seem to recall it as a ghost character but when I look that up there is nothing much about it with regards to coins. This 43 S WLH seems to have a CA, probably PMD. If something is one the field and not raised or lower into the coin, then it is on the surface of the coin. If it is on the surface, chances are it was not struck there. Often stains, happen to coins altering the surface. They are not mint errors. Report this Post to the Staff

I think that was the case in the coin my friend showed me and he said it cost quite a bit. My coin appears to be scratches on the surface and just chance Report this Post to the Staff

A coin scratch can drop the value of a variety by as much as 90%. People write on coins, put glue on them, alter them in a garage, run over them in a parking lot, skateboard on them on a cement floor altering them, burning them, baking them, cleaning them, use acid on them, but mercury on them, squash them in a vice, hit them with hammers, saws, sanders, file them down and on and on. All they do is alter them. Making them worth just as they were before, face value. These are not errors. They are just damaged. Of I forgot, also plate them. Report this Post to the Staff
