What kind of doubling is going on, if any?

Also, I just noticed, after looking at many, many coins, that there are two sets of initials on the obverse of this nickel. Is this unique to this series? (or have I just been blind all along?)

When Monticello was returned to th reverse in 2006 they added Schlag's initials to the right side of the building where the mintmark used to appear on the pre-1965 nickels.

Thanks for the responses.

But, conder, I was questioning the initials on each of Jefferson's shoulders.

Do you know the story on that?

JNF= designed by Jamie Franki
DW= engraved by Donna Weaver

The original Jefferson was designed and engraved by Felix Schlag and most other new designs are created by one artist or at least one artist per side. Traditionally, the whole coin was designed and engraved by one individual but of course that was in the days when the position of Chief Engraver of the Mint existed as well. The Artistic Infusion program has helped to diversify the talent level of the Mint.

Thanks for the response, Bio.

I guess this explains the initials on the State Quarters too.
