I received this coin in change a few years back and put it away. What do you think? 1989-D-Lincoln-Cent---D-Is-Near-Rim.This is a regular 1989-D Cent.1989-D-Lincoln-Cent---D-Is-Near-Rim.

I thought it was kind of odd. An error dealer told me that pre 1990 Lincolns had the mintmark applied by hand? This mint employee must have had bad vision! Nevertheless, I enjoy collecting Lincoln oddities.

Has been a while so will have to do my homework, but I thought
it was pre 1960 something ? with the MM puched in later.
or vice versa :) It's only Monday...

I thought the mint marks were hand stamped onto the master dies until the 1990's? That's definately a bad puching job you have there.

The hand punching on the dies happened till 1989. In 1990 the mint mark was added to the master die so RPMs ended in 1989. Hand punching the mint mark was usually closer to the date or on the date digits, thus the moving of the mint mark to a lower location creating RPMs. Seems like there are few lower RPMs than closer to the date ones. (mainly on Cents) Because of different locations of the mint mark on other denominations, the closeness to the date was usually not a problem.
