Hello

Maybe I could get some info on these two coins.

76-D Bi-cent. Is there a listed DDR on this coin ?
The one I have is doubled vertically (left sides) on the "STATES OF"
and Hor. only the top of "UNITED". No other signs of doubling anywhere else on the rev. or obv. If not, then may it just likely be Machine Doubling ? Wanted to ask first before taking pics. etc. just to see if this is pretty common on this yr. coin.

77-P Showing no rev. "FG" initials whatsoever. Not even a sign
that they were there. Looked at with 30X power and nothing there.
Thought at first maybe a grease filled type die but seemed the odds
of that were pretty far fetched to only be in that exact spot.
I have seen it on other coins but not like this. Is there a rev. die variety for this yr. half with these diagnostics ?

Thank's

The pic. does not show the doubling on the other letters as well
like on the S. Also on the tops of the letters.

77 is known for having No-FG varieties.

A picture is still the best bet on the 76D.

Having no FG is not an absence of punching for those letters. The dies are created from hubs that were made from a master die. All done in one step. The letters on a die were there till cleanings/polishing wiped them off the die. There is no such thing as a missing FG, it was there until it was worn off from cleanings. Happens on several years, just a down side from the cleanings that series suffers.

Thank you Coop. Makes perfect sense. I was aware of other coins
having missing devices because of gunk building up on the die etc.
Just wanted to be sure it was not a variety as I could not find any info to support that. In hindsight now, I guess I could not find any info on that variety because it does not exist :)

To clarify, the No-FG / Missing FG IS a mint variety. However, Coop is correct in that it is not a result of the FG not being created on the die, it's a result of excessive polishing once the die was put into use.

Any info on the 76 doubling ?

The 1976 shows Machine Doubling. It has no value.

Thanks,
Bill

"Strike it Rich With Pocket Change" by Brian Allen and Ken Potter lists MS varieties between $10-$15.
