The 1825 N-5 was in the Howard Newcomb's book but considered an error. It was long rumored until Tom Deck found one in 2012.

Any other long rumored/should exist/lost in time US die marriages you can think of?

That N-5 was a LONG time rumored coin. Newcomb included it in his 1944 book based on the report by Andrews in his 1882 book on the large cents. So it was reported but unconfirmed for 130 years. Since Tom found his I think 5 more have shown up.
