The obverse of the 1923 is cut off on both sides , can't grade . The 17-D is a virtual MS-67+ .Too bad about the two obverse rim cuts . Both coins are NOT cleaned .Not sure about value .  |

Really? I thought the 17 wasnt as good as the fur on the shoulder is gone. The face on the 23 has more detail. I am thinking of getting them slabbed. I paid a good buck kr them.

Those are both very beautiful coins from the pictures you have provided! Not sure on actual grades but they both look MS to me.

Save the money you'ld spend to have them slabbed. Really nice coins and you would like them better if not covered with plastic.

I like the 1917 D. Very nice sharp coin. It does look like it has a small rim nick though.

Coinfrog, does that rim nick doom it as far as being slabbed? IE is it automatically an AU at best?
I was looking on the PCGS or whatever's web site where you can look at previous auctions for each grade. It definitely looks strong. Other than the rim ding.

I don't know, I'm looking at the PCGS site and I have a hard time seeing either being less than MS63.
How much does it cost to get a coin "slabbed"? If I take it down to my local coin store, will they help me? Do they also charge a fee?
