Sorry if this is a silly question. I read some place RCM deoesn't hold much "collector" value...I could be wrong but that is what stands out in my mind.

Anyway, we have about 30 of these ranging from the 200 to the 100 dollar. They are all late 70s (79) up through the mid 80s, oldest being 89. Still in the box with paperwork, stored since purchase.

What is our best route if you don't mind me asking (has to go I have no choice). I only have the one pic as the others are locked away and I don't have easy access to them.

*edit...sorry about the original title, it was pretty dumb LOL*

Thanks

I suppose you have a record on what you have locked away.

You need to spend time on some patient ebay research on those items, to get a good idea of those that have good collector value, and those that have not much more than bullion value in the numismatic after market.

For most people, ebay is probably the best way of moving them. Dealers don't get terribly exited when you present them for re sale by the dealer.

In most cases, I am not a fan of modern NCLT mint product.

The selling price of new NCLT product ex Mint leaves the collector with little prospect of increasing value in the numismatic after market in the long term. In most cases, they represent a poor investment.

My LCS buys and sells virtually all of them as bullion. There may be a few that are worth a bit more but I couldn't say. It is unfortunate as many of are quite attractive, but there appears to be little collector demand right now.

The RCM sells new Proof $100 & $200 gold coins between 1.6 and 2x bullion value. Over time, all of their $100 and $200 NCLT have declined to bullion value, just like most of the Silver NCLT.

Your LCS will likely only pay you Bullion less 5-10% to allow them some spread in order to make a profit... It may make more sense if you are looking to liquidate quickly, to go to a bullion dealer if you have access to one in your town as they may work with a smaller spread.

Most of the older $100 & $200 coins are showing a profit... depending on when you purchased them. The coins from the '70s and '80s were all issued below current market price but that is due to the rise in gold price.

One important thing to remember. The $100 Gold Coins from 1977 - 1986 were 22 karat and contained a half ounce of gold. from 1987 on, they are 14 karat. 1987 - 2003 contain a quarter ounce of gold and from 2004 on: 0.22 ounce of gold. This will factor into the price a bullion dealer will offer.

The 1976 $100 was issued in 14K and 22K, the 22K is slightly smaller and doesn't have rim beads on the obverse.

Personally, I like the $100 gold series. Like the $1 SD, it is a long term enduring series and for a completionist like me, that is almost irresistible. It also helps that the NCLT bullion premium is less than 2x over bullion and as has been proven with the earlier issues, the market price of gold can overtake the issue price... As long as you measure time in decades not months. I wish that were the case with the Silver NCLT as I doubt that I will see Silver over $120CDN / oz in my lifetime unless there is another Bunker-Hunt style bubble.

Thanks for all that helpful information!! Yes not the way I would go today but he did pretty well considering he was buying in when gold was in the 350-400 range. We have a lot of gold, RCM, Krugerrand, Barbados and a few others that I can't think of off the top of my head. We have set up an appointment in the city with a buyer, go see what they say anyway, no one is forcing us to take the offer

Thanks again for all the RCM gold knowledge!! I super appreciate it!

I think you should try selling on this site (if you can get an EMT from the buyer) I'm sure you'll get better than spot. I, myself, got sucked in to the RCM gold product when I bought the 1/2 oz baseball coin (only 122 minted?) Something like that. I paid 1222 CDN which was nearly the same for 1 oz of gold so I'm sure I will have to wait a 100 years for it to go up in value.

My email shouldn't be blocked, I had someone from the forum contact me already?

edit...ok I guess I do have my email blocked. It looks like a moderator got my email to send an unsolicited message to me.

Nice......................
