Hello, do you think this is AU or MS? Thanks in advance. I just noticed there is a little Cud by the E in QUARTER on the reverse. Pretty neat. Edited by Benja 04/30/2018 03:07 am

Definitely MS. The luster is undisturbed on the high points of the design.

Typical very light strike gives appearance of circulation rub at high points, but it's not rub. Undisturbed center field luster further indicates mint state.
Technical Grade 63. Eye Appeal 5/10. Lower eye appeal due to very light strike. Still an S mint beauty.

Looks ms with great luster, but the head/cheek of liberty looks rubbed. That is all it takes to drop to au58. Don't know if that is due to lighting, but it goes without saying that you have to examine all aspects of the coin carefully. I have it at au58 due to the head/cheek.

I'm at AU58. Scratches near 'Under God' on the obverse but I'm a rank amateur.

Lower rivets are missing on the shield.

Unless scratches are significant enough to cause a details designation, they do not affect a circulated technical grade such as 58.
Lower rivet and head details are the first things to become light on the obverse of a light strike, which should not affect a uncirculated designation. Hence the use of the post grade FH for firm strikes.
