Is This A Double Die?

The date is the most obvious, but the RE in republic and the words on Balboa's hat also appear to be doubled. I am not an error collector, but is something like this common? Before coming to CCF I never would even notice something like this.

Just found this one which doesn't look like it has the same doubling effect.

Looks like the date came off a US V nickel. Not sure how early Panama coins were made in the US, but this could be one of them.

Jays-Dad- According to Krause, coins of this date and denomination are very frequently seen struck from a doubled die. In fact, a 1/2 centisimo that does not have doubling is somewhat scarce.

Seeing the separation of serifs I would guess DDO as well. The date must have been on the hub.

I bought both of them and they are beautiful. One has the great doubling and is XF, the other is just a gorgeous Unc with no doubling. According to my findings, these were made in Philadelphia so....how cool are these! I never looked for a double die before CCF and think this is better than trying to get a US double die (too expensive).
