About a month ago, I was asked to be the auction head for week one of the 2018 ANA Summer Seminar Young Numismatist Scholarship auction. I have been attending shows, visiting local dealers I purchase from, and the different coin club meetings in my area asking for numismatic donations to be auctioned at this year's summer seminar in the second half of June.
I ask and invite you to send in a numismatic item or two. In addition to raising a lot of money to pay for future YN scholarships (YNs fill out a long application noting their numismatic accomplishments and interests and those selected will receive a full or partial scholarship that includes airfare, room and board, and the seminar class itself), all the YNs are responsible for running the auction which includes, collecting lots, lot viewing, creating the auction catalog, running the auction, and the auction accounting. This involvement is a great learning lesson for the kids.
This will be my fourth year attending and each year I have become more involved in the auction and now asked to be the head of week's one auction. It is my hope that the auction raises a great deal of money so more young collectors can attend next year. The experience both young and seasoned collectors receive at the seminar is outstanding. Many of the YNs I have met will remain collectors the rest of their lives and I am sure will do their best to introduce more kids to our hobby. Each year, almost 50 YNs attend either of the two weeks of seminars.
The items you donate do not have to be expensive. $25.00 and up would be great. Any thing numismatic including US coins, world coins, ancients, notes, medals, etc. Here is the updated video I just made along with a link to the donation form to use and send along with your donated item(s). If you do donate, feel free to share what you donated on this thread. Many of you are very supportive of YNs and I know on a personal level, my love for numismatics was thanks to two numismatists who have mentored me.
The seminar attendees are very generous and bid up the items so the more items the better. Here is my updated video that discusses the auction as well as the summer seminar itself :

Please send the numismatic items to the ANA before June 10th. Your donation may be tax deductible. The ANA will send you a thank you letter. You will determine the value of the donated item(s) should you include them as a charitable deduction.
Thanks so much!
Kenny
PS - If you have never attended an ANA Summer Seminar, I highly recommend it. The classroom sessions are wonderful and when you add in the auction, ANA library book sale, meeting well-known numismatists, the closing ceremonies, and the constant coin talk you will want to come back again and again.
If you have donated a numismatic item, thank you so much! If you plan on donating, please do so by June 5th so it will arrive for the first seminar week. Let me know if you have any questions?
The ANA shared some exciting news this week regarding a large donation made by the Eric P. Newman Education Society to the ANA Summer Seminar. Here is a link to the release. Your numismatic donation is now even more significant as the donation amount includes the doubling of the proceeds earned during each of the auctions held during the summer seminar. Click the link to learn more. If you are generously considering a donation, please send it before June 5, 2018 so it will arrive at the ANA before the seminars begin.
