I broke out my double proof sets - 1968 to 2006 - to fill my Dansco Albums (I hate seeing empty holes)......It was pretty darn hard. I used a band saw to cut the ends and then used a screw driver to pry them open....It was rather time consuming. I did notice that 1999 to 2006 was alot easier than the earlier dates. It was an all day project.

Anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

It is time consuming to break them open......and then to card and mark all of the duplicates.......ugh!

I generally can get the earlier ones opened with a nice hard twist of the case with both hands and then I can separate the case.

Tpatna.....
Were you excited and fullfilled once finished ?

I've still yet to "crack" anything for an album, though I certainly intend to at some point......The Presidential dollar Proof Sets won't be a difficult decision for me !

I'm just gathering and hoarding for the future point at which I decide to sit down and do that work of putting "proofs" into my albums to increase their beauty and value.......ahhhhhh.......like the way that sounds ! Ha ha LoL

A band saw......hummmm.....we have one here in the shop !.......may have to utilize it on mine !.......good idea !...

The little eyeglass repair kits have a tiny screwdriver, which helps A LOT to open the cases. Just have to find the small circular indentation on the edge of the set, where the two sides come together.

I did the same thing a few years back! When it came time to do the proof holes in my Dansco albums, I first thought I would just buy the singles. Then I noticed that the single prices were a lot higher compared to the sets. I decided to buy duplicate sets to crack, but realized I could just crack the existing sets and replace them later. Then I asked myself "What am I keeping these sets for?" I have yet to replace them and the albums look happy!

Same here. If I came across one that was difficult, I found that my utility knife could "persuade" it to open up!

Yup !......good point.....and I'm getting more and more excited to make MY albums happy !
Mentally, I'm over the "to crack em' or not to crack em'" thing.....(it's a real easy equation with the Presidential dollars right?).....just have a lot of work to do on purchasing missing ones, replacing them with proofs, etc.....but that is really the life's work anyway right?.....to have that shiny valuable "proof" album to display, instead of regular ole circulated coins that are "suspect" and beat up lookin'........who wants that ?.......
It's now not enough to complete any album.......but the highest goal should be to complete every album you can with PROOF COINS !!....then ya really got something.....now THAT'S a goal to have in coin collecting!!
eehhh ?......too expensive you say ?.....don't wanna crack any sets up ?......therein lies the struggle I guess for many of us....
But once you've looked upon a completed album of some kind with all "PROOF" versions well represented.......YOU WANT THAT FOR YOUR OWN!
What the heck am I babbling on about here...?....
