Hey guys, picked this up today for a reasonable price and was curious what you think about in terms of grading. There's a major flaw on the obverse, a kind of gouge or smushing has occurred and the coin is damaged but otherwise looks pretty good.

Thank you all

So if a very fine value coin is worth $171, what does the damaged aspect do to affect the price? What is a reasonable value for this coin?

Agree with SD2017. This is more damage than most collectors want to see. Stick around and you will learn what to look for in coins that most collectors appreciate.

If real that's probably a 40-50 dollar coin at best, its got a lot of issues.

It appears as if it has had a blob of hard silver solder mechanically removed, that would explain the damage.

Even rim denticles suggest genuine.

Value? 30% to 40% of VF pricing. The field has been affected, but the design has not, that is a plus for this coin.

I have an example in about the same condition, but without that sort of damage. I suspect that I paid slightly too much for mine (light scratches and cleaned), at the time of purchase.

The value will go down significantly. Market value is about $30 - $40. Finding customers for coins that are damaged/cleaned is almost always difficult, unless it's a very rare issue.
If you have the option of returning this coin, do so immediately. You can find a nice VF Trade dollar in a PCGS slab that's not damaged on ebay easily.

Sounds about right. Not much appeal in this one.
