Hi guys,

Just acquired the classical $10 Liberty Indian Head. My source is supposed to be a trusted one.. But some minor details on the edge are leaving me puzzled.
I am not sure if you can see it in the below Images. But the rim edge has 2 break lines between the stars. Is it normal?

Thanks for your help.

The edge isn't in focus. Perhaps you could take some additional pics. Maybe holding the coin so that your fingers are further away from the camera lens will help to focus the image. Or using something very small to hold the coin ... just try to get the edge in the foreground.

Also, I've been told by several people that in the 1970s (or 1980s) there were many fake US gold coins minted in Lebanon. They are accurate in gold & copper composition, diameter, and weight.
Rest in Peace

Design elements seem a bit weak, too. Could we also see a photograph of the reverse?

I can provide you with better images by tomorrow. But in the first one the small line on the top of edge is clear between the stars.

The coin was purchased in Paris. Although it's true we do have very good forgeries in Lebanon.

I've seen that little rim lug, but I don't have any around to compare.

This picture of the edge shows it. Yours looks normal.

How close is the weight to 16.8 grams? It's hard to fake a gold coin without using gold. Count the stars too. There should be 48.

I'm no expert but the details on the reverse look pretty mushy.

Yes it is normal. The edge lettering was applied at the time of striking using a three part segmented collar (same as withthe proof president dollars) The "lugs" you see are where the planchet metal was forced into the gaps between the segments. There should be three of those lines though.

Conder101 has said it right.
The collars that were used had three segments.
