I'm new to this looking at coins more closely. I've got a 1968 D penny and the width seems to get more narrow at 1 Section what's the name of this error if it's one at all any help is appreciated thanks

It's not a thinning of width due to something like being ran over or smashed but "naturally" thins in one spot

It is probably a "Thinned Planchet" since the strike seems unaffected tho weakened, the sign of thin planchets. This is where the stock plate of material has been rolled thinner than normal. If you weigh the coin, it will probably be less than the normal 3.1gr.

It is not that unusual of an error, so doesn't hold much value to it.

BTW

If you are talking about thinning at IGWT, looks like the rim there is worn more than below Lincoln.
