I'm not very good on these.

Currently on ebay in an ms63 NGC holder as a large date, but I'm leaning towards a small date.

What say you?

Actually I think it's accurate.

Here's an overlay I did with a PCGS graded coin 1875H LD from: https://www.PCGS.com/cert/81176850

The elements are slightly off because the coin in your photo is tilted slightly (i.e not dead-on) but the proportions line up.

Yours is a SMALL DATE 5/5 (Low over High), a well known variety...though not particularly scarce..

Canadian-varieties...................

that's what I kind of thought too.

Here's another two pictures of the NGC large date, which I think is a small date.

It's a gorgeous 1875 Small Date 5/5, I'd love to have it in my collection. I believe my Small 5/5 is a VF30 or EF40...

I've only seen one mint state 1875 Large Date in my life, and it was in a MS63 ICG holder, sold for $8000 on ebay and a few months later Canadian Numismatic Company had it crossed over in a PCGS holder and sold it for $38800.

So is this one from PCGS also mis-attributed? It's what I used as a reference photo and has the same dramatic portrait die clashes on the reverse: https://www.PCGS.com/cert/81176850

Khatt...yes...that PCGS AU55 is also mis-attributed...

another date that is rife with mis-attributions is the Canada 5c 1885...

Attribution has been a problem with US TPGs. I've had some discussions with NGC on the topic to do better. Here is another example (1885) (disclosure, this is my listing). Not only is it a large 5 it may be a 5/5. 302724975812.
