Seller had a bunch of really nice lots; I had ebay bucks to burn. I put in a lot of bids, but sadly only won one 8 coin lot. I'm still thrilled just to get this one coin for the price I paid!

Augustus and Rhoemetalkes, Thrace, 12 BC - 12 AD
AE 15, 4.25 gr.
BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΡOIMHTAΛKOY, diademed head of Rhoimetalkes right
KAIΣAΡOΣ ΣEBAΣTOY, bare head of Augustus right, large capricorn leaping right with globe before forefeet, in right field.
RPC I 1719.

Roman-Thrace---Ae15-Of-Rhometalces-And-Augustus

Hailing from a long line of kings, Rhoemetalces I became the regent for his young nephew Rhescuporis I in 48 BC. Rhescuporis was slain in battle in 13 BC against a revolting tribal leader, but Augustus put down the rebellion in 12 BC and installed Rhoemetalces as king. Rhoemetalces was a loyal supporter of Augustus, featuring him on most of his coinage. He died of natural causes in 12 AD.

Nice coin, I have several of these with the jugate bust and signal bust but mine doesn't have the Hippocampus. Excellent find.

Nice pick-up! Any thoughts about what is on Rhoimetalkes' cheek? I assume not a purposeful part of the design.

Nice pickup, with an excellent rendition of the capricorn.

Thanks all!

@Spence, I'll need to look at it more closely in person, but I think that's just a hit on Rhoemetalces' cheek.

And @Ron, I would love to see your examples if you have images handy!
