Hi, I am not an expert in identifying coin errors, but I was hoping someone here might be able to help, especially with this particular
Lincoln Penny I came across. It is the last number of the date that looks unusual to me. In my perspective, from a distant look it sort of appears as being a 1971 date, but the 1 seems a bit to small and on an angle. It also may appear to possibly be a 7.( 1977)
with that said, If the last number were a 7 or even a 4, And had partially became worn-out and unable to see anymore, then why when look closely in the light, there are no marks or traces of degraded numbering? I do notice some graded areas but no trace number decay? I could be completely wrong and I probably am, and so that is why I am here to receive some insight and clarity on this. And maybe this is just a normal occurrence with coins and I've just never noticed. And who knows, maybe there is even more to it!
Anyway, this is just my perspective, and again I am not an expert at this. I am just very curious to find out what it could be. With that said, all help is appreciated!
Here is a close up image I took to get the best possible resolution from my smartphone.
Thank you!
