So, organizing and storing seems to be a topic that has been well covered here but I wonder about digital cataloging? As I am always on the hunt and some of my collections are filled with more holes than not, I like to know exactly what I have. I discovered a great app for my phone, it lets me sort by type, date mint and many other options. It lets me keep notes on coins as I get them. For my Morgans I even note purchase price and grade if applicable. The app is great for US coins from the mid 1700's to now but I also have currency and a lot of world coins. Just curious if there is something else out there, other than just making a spread sheet?

You can try http://www.numista.com - you have to register, but their world coin database is unparalleled (albeit not yet complete). I haven't registered and only use it for research, but I know a lot of members here use it to track foreign type sets or One From Each Country (OFEC) sets.

Coinmanager is very good, but is PC based, not phone based.

I just have an Excel spreadsheet. In it, I can keep track of just about any information, including purchase info, and sort by any column. I print a flip insert for each containing the same information, and I have my own system of catalog numbers for easy reference between the two.

For me I have created a website. It allows me to include that information that is important to me. It is more work to initially create but once created I can create a new page for each coin in just a minute or two. You have to have some knowledge of basic html For more 'creative' webpages javascript is also helpful.

Spreadsheets work fine until you are out on the hunt, no cell service and no copy of your list of needs and wants. Unfortunately, I always have my phone with me so I can just look at the app but it is somewhat limited. SRS77, a website seems over the top to me but it would allow access from remote places and nothing extra to carry.

I keep a copy of my spreadsheet on my phone, no connection required.

While a mobile app would be convenient, I value customization. Even with the best app out there, I doubt it would be long before I decided I wanted a feature that wasn't available. Since Excel can do a ridiculous number of things if you know how to use it, it's my best option. I don't have a copy of the spreadsheet on my phone, but I probably should.

I just use a hand written page to take with me to coin shows. I only want what is on that list so having to need a spread sheet of any kind when looking for coins is just not needed.

I say spreadsheets instead of Excel because they are not the only game in town. Quote: I just use a hand written page to take with me to coin shows. My want-list has its own worksheet that also has current NumisMedia values on it.
