At first glance it looks ms64 due to hairlining in the obverse fields, but the hair is weakly struck, especially above the ear. Unlike the New Orleans issues, the 1881-S has many superbly struck examples. It could be rubbed, but even if it isn't, I wouldn't be happy with a weakly struck 81-S given the abundance of gem examples.

Consider yourself fortunate that you don't own this coin. I'm rather pleased with it.

I believe it is, at least for the last sentence. I rather like this example as well. MS63-64 borderline PL.

It was absolutely called for.

I don't think that the intent was malicious or ill-willed, however it could be construed by a beginner/novice as dismissive or hurtful. That comment perfectly surmises the condescending pretentiousness that is ingrained in the hobby.

As much as I hate to agree on this, it's true.

As for the coin, MS64. I really like the look of it, nice Morgan

Well my Grandfather always told me "Truth hurts" - and I'm pretty sure I also said: "But anyhow, nice looking Morgan and I'll go 64 also! Can't really tell what is under the toning!"

So please read everything instead of just what you want to hear!

Why does there always have to be an argument about this?

SpareHuman could have been allowed to defend that he or she is happy with the coin...and with numismatic student's (kind) reply after learning that fact, it would have been over.

SpareHuman, keep in mind that quite often folks are posting a picture of a coin they are considering buying, to get opinions. The student was merely offering his opinion on the coin.
