When I first saw this today, my initial reaction was, "Oh, that can't have been made from a real coin!"

1879-Morgan---One-Of-A-Kind!

But indeed it appears to be so. Obviously the obverse was polished. Note the crown for winding it is missing, so I haven't yet determined if it'll run.

1879-Morgan---One-Of-A-Kind!

Now here's the kicker - it was also made to function as a bolo tie slider!

1879-Morgan---One-Of-A-Kind!

There's an aspect of this that's not particularly well thought out. If you're wearing this as a bolo tie, it'd be logical that you'd want the coin to present itself right side up. However, to take advantage of it as a timepiece, you'd be more or less forced to look down while rotating it about 90°, in which case from your perspective you'd be then trying to decipher the position of the hands upside down!

I used to see watches made from real Double Eagles when I was younger - I suppose they are still made.

Similar kind of work using a Charles X 5 Franc to make a pinback.

Why someone would wear a pin featuring the most hated French king is beyond me.

Pretty good, repurposing, outside of collecting and hoarding the preciousness of course.
