The biggest giveaway for me was "Liberty" and "God" from "In God We Trust". Still a pretty darn good fake though.

when it comes to key dates and especially ones that are often faked, I will never buy a raw one.......has to be slabbed by NGC, PCGS or ANACs

The 4 known dies for the 1909-S V.D. B. The Dot on the 'D' is centered between the area. On the V.D.B. the Plain V.D.B DOTS are in a different placement. So an added 'S' on a plain VDB would show the center dot in a different placement.

It does look impressive. I guess the mark on Lincoln is suppose to make it seem more authentic.

So, do we think this was actually a 1909 VDB from Philly with an added mintmark, or a complete fake?

Mint mark it totally wrong and the location of the center dot on the VDB is like the plain VDB cents. So it was an add on to the coin. Nice to have all this in one place. CoopHome 1909-S VDB real?

I checked out the PCGS Coinfacts app and for the plain 1909 VDB, they show examples with the dots in both positions. Pics: Off-center D dot: Centered D dot:

The mint mark is almost certainly glued on. Question about whether it is a fake coin altogether or an original 1909-P VDB I am less sure of. Noted above are things like the weakness in LIBERTY and GOD, the missing dot after the V, plus that the coin sounds a little off when it rings. But I have to go with a real coin, as why would you fake a plain and then add the S and not just fake the whole thing at once?

So who's right? Coop or PCGS? I had always wondered if there weren't two different working hubs in Philly...

Why don't we ask the worker at the mint? Oh wait, he probably doesn't work there anymore... LOL Glad this was brought up about the two locations for the plain VDB. But the mint mark is all wrong and the only reverse for the SVDB, is the one with the center dot. But nice to know that someone could fake the location if they had used the correct reverse. (so not all is lost)
