I pull this out 9f a roll from a credit Union. I believe it is a die break. Very nice as well. I believe it also is a DDR. Being a 1958 D is it real and is it a new find. thanks!

If it is incuse, then it is coin contact. If it is raised, then it maybe a die gouge. Chips were not that common on that area of the die. Most are on the LIBERTY area. Also a chip would be raised and often ragged usually on the fields. Sometime on raised devices.

Looks like a Die Gouge to me.

I'm leaning towards coin damage as a gouge would not usually go into the deeper part of the die. It looks like some of the mint mark area is raised, but the line is a scratch, from what I can see.

Sorry I didn't metion it is not incused. It is rasied and has the same feel to it as the Licoln bust. I will take more pictures and Post. I could hold it in a good way to give it's true depth. Any thoughts on how common with the Being A DDOR as well?

That is a die scratch. Pretty strong, possible die gouge.

Depending on how low the angle of the light source, the light makes things appear differently. Its like holding a flashlight below your face upwards. Looks different than light straight on. So light angles can make things look different. Just a reflection off a curved device. The area is incuse, but with the light at that angle, it looks raised in this image. No need to call ghostbusters... well not yet. LOL

That is a lot better. It is a die gouge. I can now see where it hit just the shallow part of the bust, the deeper parts it missed. Thanks for the extra images. These will do fine.

Thank you Coop. As for it being under the mint mark and DDOR would you say it is rare?
