A case of overzealous intentional die abrasion ("die polishing").

It has nothing to do with an odd strike. As Mike said, It is intentional die abrasion, usually to remove clash marks from the dies.

I have literally seen at least ten thousand of them from the period 1982 to 1985.

They are interesting but incredibly common.

Thanks,
Bill
