1730R Brazil 12800 Reis. Sorry for scanned pictures. I know thatīs very difficult to grade it, but unfortunately itīs an auction coin so I have only these photos. My main worry is: Coin was cleaned long ago? Any sign of mounting?

Do you mean the auction coin is a fake one?

I have serious problems with just the photograph of this coin, it does not appear to be gold, and has a granular surface. It screams, 'don't bid on me'.

I see what your saying Dorado. Spacing on several aspects of it are off and it just looks wrong. Thank you for the side-by-side.

This is not a coin I would buy as genuine.

Most definitly a counterfeit. The Obverse is not even close.

I am answering this one to correct old mistakes done here.
I assure you there was nothing bad visible in this 1730 dobra from Rio. It my opinion it was genuine. Only the high wear prevents me from saying that it is genuine for sure.
The obverse matches perfectly with a well documented die that has the date amended from 1729. The reverse does not match perfectly with any I saw documented but is the correct style for the year. There is nothing wrong about the design of the reverse.
Two different reverses with the oblique and straight castles in the shield are well known. Both are genuine.
