I have a number of boxes of these-2500 per box-yes it is a hoard, I admit.

Someday I may be bored and decide to search these for minor errors like clips, die cracks, thin planchets, and the like.

I am sure that I would have noticed something dramatic like a broad strike or something off metal during the initial rolling.

can anyone suggest the odds of finding anything like that, and are some years more prone to errors?

Most of my minor cent errors are pre-'80's.
1969 was a good year for double struck cents...

Ironically, 1980 and 1981 were probably the most common years to find errors in circulation, 1978 would be a close third...

Thanks, SPP:

I do have quite a few 1980s and 1981s too.

What errors should I be looking for? How obvious might they be?

If they are UNC boxes you may find a few clipped cents. But if they are circulation boxes, I doubt it.

Keep a scale handy when going through them. 1980 and 1981 is rife with coins struck on split planchets, struck through split planchets, and transition strikes (1980 cent struck on a 3.24 gram planchet from 1979 and older).
