The RCM's Annual Report for 2017 has just recently been published online.
The figures for circulation coinage are pretty interesting. There were only 20.000.000 ''CANADA 150'' 5 Cent, 10 Cent and 25 Cent (each) minted, plus 10.000.000 ''CANADA 150'' Loonies and Toonies (each). I had expected a lot more.

But the total number for all denominations is indeed higher. Even including the mintage for the other 2017 commemorative circulation coins (Stanley Cup Quarter, Maple Leafs Loonie and Vimy Toonie). If they really didn't mint the regular designed coins for circulation (only mint sets) they must have minted a lot of 2016-dated coins in 2017.
Unfortunately, the 2017 report doesn't include the (circulation) ''coinage dated'' section of previous annual reports.

This is very surprising to see how low the mintage of 2017 coins were. I thought it would be higher than a normal year to take into account the number of people who are probably hoarding them. The funny thing is the mint produced a ton of those cardboard holders for people to put in circulation 2017 coins. I wonder how many actually have been 100% filled?

I think the excess coins minted in 2017 are actually 2018 coins. I don't think the mint back-dates coins. I went through 10 rolls of quarters today. There were already a handful of 2018's, but no coloured 2017's. That is the one 2017 I have yet to find.

BTW, it is buried on page 86 of the report if anyone is trying to find the stats.

I would be interested in seeing the mintage of the 2018 regular design coins that were from the uncirculated sets. It is somewhat shocking that the special Canada 150 designs had a relatively low mintage.
