Sorry couldn't resist showing my love for another dead president coin in the title of this post. Now, being one to try and stay on TOP of things I can't help but wonder how the hucksters on ebay are pre-selling 2006 P&D Jefferson nickels with a guaranteed, or should I say, anticipated delivery of Jan. 12th? Folks I haven't heard a peep whether or not the Mint will even sell two roll sets of these nickels and they darn sure ARE NOT listed on the Mint's website? Am I missing something here? I don't see any way ANY ONE individual could know when these coins will even be offered or when they will eventually make their way to local banks (that would be every where except rural Indiana) as they will never appear here this year! Have I missed an announcement or what gives?

Jan 12th would be about right,,,, but it is taking a gamble on pre sales. Never a good business practice.

Maybe it myself that is missing something, but when did the mint ever start selling normal every day, run of the mill nickels that will be the norm for the next hundred years, in rolls from the mint? Who in their right mind would pay a premium for such items? I can guarantee it won't be me as I have no intention of gathering this issue of coin for any purpose. MY Jefferson nickel SET IS COMPLETE. I'm not about to start another series.

But OLD DAN I could offer you a pre-sale right now, which of course you would go ahead and pay for, and as soon as I get some nickels (in 2006) I will gladly ship them out on Turtle Freight Lines or by Pony Express, which ever office I can locate first, and YOU will be one of the lucky ones to pay double what you will eventually be able to get (maybe) from the Mint, who will charge you double, which is only half of the double I want you to pay right now? And should the Federal Reserve actually get these to your local banks, where you could get them get at face value, they won't mean as much to you because you didn't pay the additional collector value which would mean they are worth much more than the normal coins you would find at a bank any way! (When the Home Shopping Network reads this I will have a new job) And of course our pre-sale nickels will be highly sought after as they are guaranteed first strikes, which we can't prove but, you can't prove they are not! Now how about that big order before the Mint announces a sell out, which I can personally guarantee you will happen on Dec.31, 2006, as this is a limited edition and being a new design for 2006 the masses will hoard them and at the end of the year they are GONE!!! Please don't pass up this golden opportunity to enhance your collection with these valuable coins! Ordering has never been easier as I accept cash, check, money order, PayPal, venison, buffalo steaks, calves, runt pigs and chickens. Sorry no ponies, dogs or cats at this time!!! And, of course, in Indiana we have a convenient lay away plan---you send your payment and we will lay it away until such a time it is convenient to send you your coins (when we can get them at face value from the banks) and until then rest assured our customer service is next to NONE!

Gary, Did we send your order from last year? If we did I must apologize as we didn't aim for that to happen! Mike I can put you down for up to an armored truck load of new nickels as I think the guys that hoisted the one down in Florida may be available to work for us soon? In any event, with just a little "back order time" we will send you something in return for your money! We figure sooner or later we can scrounge up enough shiny new nikels to make just enough UNC. rolls to get us by and satisfy the huge demand we are expecting. Our experienced staff is on hand (sleeping while waiting for your orders)just waiting to clean er....I mean examine each and every coin to make sure the Mint has struck them to our rigid standards and to our satisfaction (whatever that may be)! Don't take no chances of being left out in the cold on this HOT new limited issue as delegated by our U.S. Congess! And always remember we give a 25% discount for our loyal customers who are dumb er.....intelligent enough to send cash, well concealed in an envelope! This eliminates you having to wait for a check to clear and we don't have to waste our $2.25 a gallon of gas driving back and forth to the banks! A win win for everyone involved!

It is SOOOOOO nice to see collectors with an eye for value and the desire to invest in their future! And remember folks, I don't want to make any money, I just love to sell coins!!! Our 2006 Jefferson nickels will be BETTER than the other guys, no doubt about it, so expect to pay a little more (well maybe a lot more) but just think of how proud you will be knowing YOURS are better than the other guys as you went that next step and avoided those CHEAP nickels at the bank!!!

I must admit that I don't really understand people's obsessions with ultra-common modern coins that will flood the market for decades to come. I will never buy such things by the roll or bag. Perhaps it works for some people, but in my opinion, those who see serious investment potential will be disappointed with most modern circulation issues (although I am sure the occasional exception will surface in time). I don't ignore them entirely; I buy the annual mint sets and proof sets, but I buy them just to have them and I don't necessarily expect them to have any potential for serious value increase in my lifetime. When I buy rolls or bags, I buy old stuff because I find it more interesting. I find the older coins more attractive anyway. I'll take a roll of Seated quarters or a small pile of Roman coins over a bag of 2006 nickels any day! Heather

Well said Heather especially when dealing with U.S. coins as our mint goes out of its way to make sure they can control the secondary market. NOW, if you look at other coins, world wide, where mints are cooperating with the collecting community you will find LIMITED issues which guarantees the Mints of a sellout which creates a very STRONG secondary market for years to come. It took me years and years to open my eyes to world coins and what I have found is amazing! I must admit the creation of the internet has made the world smaller and opened many doors for collectors world wide to pursue, buy, sell and trade in a market we never dreamed! While I still pursue U.S. coins (modern and classics) I now have no borders as I search world wide for LIMITED issues that are affordable and appeal to me. I am having MORE fun now than I have ever had in this hobby and I am learning new languages, new culture and new history! I could not enjoy this hobby more than I do now!

I think many long-time collectors have a "re-birth" of excitement when it comes to coin collecting. I know that I am enjoying it now almost as much as when I was "really" into it back in the 1960's.
