1973-D Lincoln RD cent found in rolls. On the reverse the Lincoln Memorial, at the top, the building edges seem to have less detail in certain parts of the ledge.

The 'E' in E Pluribus is fading out and some of the bottom steps seem to be lumped together. Oh yes, this coin came from an uncirculated roll.

Was this caused by a worn die are something or something got stuck during the minting process? Because in this roll, there are a number of coins with less than perfect striking
details.

Thanks for your help

In the second pic, if those diagonal lines through E PLURIBUS UNUM are raised, that might suggest the lack of detail. It could also be a weak strike, as Lincoln's bust on the obverse reduces strike pressure on the reverse. Raises lines point to scratches on the die, often created by polishing to remove clash marks--damage from dies striking each other. Just a few guesses.

There is evidence of die clash marks between at least one of the bays.
Hi,

The likely scenario is that dies clashed, marks were made and the die was polished to remove clash marks. That also removed some details from the die. It is a pretty common occurrence.

Thanks,
Bill
