BillSnyder Pillar of the Community 778 Posts	Posted 05/16/2018 8:27 pm I have a 3 x 5 card (with a 1970 5 Shillings Somalia coin stapled on and pictured) titled - SILVERTOWNE PHOTOGUARANTEE On the reverse of the card, "THE COIN REPRESENTED ON THIS CERTIFICATE IS GUARANTEED TO BE GENUINE BY SILVERTOWNE." I guessing that SilverTowne was one of the original coin companies that began to address the problem of counterfeit coins back in the 1970's. Bill Report this Post to the Staff

Kushanshah Pillar of the Community United States 1554 Posts	Posted 05/16/2018 9:07 pm Silvertowne is a well-known numismatic firm in Indiana with a colorful history, in business since the 1950s. I used to visit them when I lived in the midwest. They own a private mint which manufactures silver rounds and were among the first to pitch coins on TV. Silvertowne's founder, Leon Hendrickson, passed away last year at the age of 90. I've never come across one of their certificates but I suspect it had more to do with marketing modern world coins than providing authentication services.
