Why does this coin look like it has a reeded edge? It is faint, but it goes all the way around the coin...

I'm not seeing much of a reeded edge. I'm waiting experts to chime in.

I see the parallel fine scratches you're referring to. They appear to be fairly evenly spaced. Don't know if that could be from the mint process or not. Someone that knows a lot more than I will be along shortly.

I'm about to smack those grubby fingers all over the face of that coin! Don't do that! If we had said this was a 500 dollar error, it would now be a 100 dollar error if even that with your finger print on it.

Ok , he's a new member; cut him a little slack . He'll learn like we all did . Anyway about OP's coin there is not enough definition to be a reeded edge . But don't toss it just yet .

I'll bet they are scrapes left behind when the planchet was punched out.

The cent collar never had reeds. If they were there, then it would not be a cent. Just circulation marks. Reeds are raised.

Possibly just wear. Wear on dies cause flowlines, flowlines on a collar would show as vertical lines.
