Greetings. Have been away for a while.

This 79 Morgan has what I think are die chips near the west hair on the very bottom. First do you agree and second do we register these coins anywhere. I am not sure about Variety Vista or Wexlers.

Thanks and Have a great Memorial Day weekend.

It could be Die Chips, but it could also be pitting from a rusted die. See error-ref.com link. http://www.error-ref.com/rusted-die/

Yes die chips. But only really "reportable"(?) to be used as a VAM identifier. A chip by itself doesn't increase value, does it?
Rest in Peace

What you are seeing is the remnants of the hair after the obverse die has been over-polished probably because of a clash event or two.

Edit to add - VAM-64 looks like at least an evil mimic of the die polish on your example. http://www.vamworld.com/1879-P%20VAM-64

Yeah, I'm thinking it's a match based on the polished obverse die and more importantly the doubling above bottom crossbar of the 1. Welcome to VAMming...

I don't see anything about the VAM 64 on the VAM site?

What exactly are you looking for beyond the information contained in the listing? (attached hyperlink above)

Dave I was looking to see how many of the VAM 64 there were or any value quides. I am not selling but it is of interest. Thanks. BTW it is a bit awkard to post pics on the VAM site since you have to use HTML so I am hesitant to do that initially.
Rest in Peace

I'm not 100% positive but my guess is that VAM64 is not a value added VAM. There are 3 examples listed in the SSDC registry with all 3 graded by ANACS and none higher than AU55.
By post picture on VAMworld I'm assuming you were thinking about joining and posting on the message board? Just a word of advice, any questions regarding value should be posted in the BST board. Hope this helps..
