I believe this to be a Grease Filled Die Penny, most of the obverse is filled in, but reverse is red in parts .Also if you get real close, you can see it is a layer over the coin, and even red in spots. I've also been reading on the US mint website, that Grease Filled Die Penny do exist and unless it's filled like mine is, it's not worth much. The reverse is in great shape.Im not sure could be a filled S.I say that this obverse is mostly filled, but you can definitely make out the 1946,yes you can see the 6.

Looks to me like it's acid or water corrosion. Did not leave the mint looking like that.

The loop looks fairly large, so I think its 40 instead of 46.

It looks like a 1940 with environmental damage, no error.

The last digit looks to be a zero.
