I bank with CIBC in Canada. I usually get rolls at a branch close to work, but it was a rainy Saturday, so I decided to go to the branch closest to my house. When I got there I was surprised to find out that it had been converted into a cashless branch. There are no tellers, just a couple of employees standing around to help people with online banking. Undeterred, I then drove to the second closest branch. It turned out they did the exact same conversion there too! I guess the bank is trying to cut costs. I'm not sure if anyone else has run into this.

Many branches are getting away from the typical teller setting. Since many people are doing online banking and people coming and going inside the branches is declining, only makes sense from a business standpoint. Happening here in Detroit, MI area with different banks.

Capital One bank converted their only branch near me to a cashless brach; I promptly emptied my accounts and dont use them anymore. Any bank that I can't withdraw several thousand dollars in cash out of in a pinch I have no desire to do business with.

What's the point in having a physical bank branch that does not deal with cash?

If any of my three banks ever do this, I'll definitely close my accounts with them. Of my three, Chase seems to be the one with the most leanings towards automation, having lots of automated machines in place of where tellers used to be. Also, some just close up the teller windows entirely, only opening them when customers need to get coin or do some other transaction which requires their use. Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank seem to be much less inclined towards automation than Chase.

Yeah. They should just hang up a sign that says "We are not here, just use your smartphone" and then sublet the building to some other B&M business.

If my banks go "no-teller", then I will also take my business elsewhere.

To be honest, since I no longer CRH I would probably survive without tellers. I rarely visit in person, maybe once a year and that is because I have to sign something in person.

I dumped the greedy banks years ago. There are better options.
