Searching through a bag of wheat cents and just found this 1927-D that has a little over 27 million mintage figure.

You'll have to let me know the percentages. I used to keep spreadsheets on all my bulk purchases pretty much down to the coin. My AVERAGE for 33K+ wheat cents was a whopping 7.9% teens-thirties, and of those noted most bulk were ALWAYS the common date AG/FR's with every now and then one like yours tossed in. Most could be said to be a dealer's junk bin sales(that which his customers turned in, circulation find) and only one, was what I would consider a "not put together" batch, even possibly "unsearched" as we describe such...it was a 53% pre 1940, few of the 50's D mints and held a 22D, 2-26S, 8-09's and 6 09VDB's with a slew of the 31-33P&D's, all NEVER gleaned from any other set lot. Let me know Mark, those D & S's are a treat to find!

Looks like an off center strike? What does the edge look like?

The last time I bought a sack of 2500 wheats from Provident a few months ago and I'd have to say at least 50% of them were 30, 40, & 50,s S minted cents. After awhile I was actually wanting to find a Philly cent. I ended up with 33 rolls of S mint wheats.

I bought this bag of 1000 from that Texas coin shop you told me about - I've always had real good luck with them.

No, the strike is pretty centered both Obverse and Reverse it's just the rims are worn in some places.

Nice..! I haven't come across a '27-D in years..

Matter of fact, the bulk wheats I'd been getting lately had started looking so much like what the Crazed One describes I stopped ordering them.. One time I called to complain and the next bag was sooo loaded with junk S's and teen/20s dross that I'd rather have had the ok '40s and at-least-decent shape '50s dominating previous orders than them..

So it's nice to hear there are still some purveyors of kinda unsearched wheats about.. Time to try new places, it appears..

Swamp

Oh, yeah -- PS: John1; it looked a bit MAD to me too..

It must be the pictures - in hand the rims are of equal size all the way around.
