*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***

Good day as the Memorial Day Weekend begins.

I have tried to figure out this MM and I think it is likely machine generated in some way. Maybe a single strike flat field strike. Thoughts?

Thanks

Rich

Yea, it is MD... the die, well and coin actually, moved as things bounced. Mintmarks being placed by hand were sometimes punched deeper into the die, making a resultant detail higher than others. The die caught this edge as it settled down in a NEE direction.

It is MD. Note on the devices above the MM? You can see the MD there also. Sometimes the mint mark is taller than the surrounding devices. Then coin contact or MD can alter the MM only. But not an RPM. The best way to tell it in not a RPM? If you see the classic step down on a outside corner of the MM, then it is not a RPM, but is MD.

Got it Coop. Thanks. I will have to study the striking process in some depth. Still don't see the mechanics of the MD.
