Is-This-A--Cud-Or-Is-It-Post-Minting-Damage?-Wlh
Went through some of my Walking Liberty halves that I saved from circulation some 50 or so years ago. Found this one. The " Cud" is at the date on the obverse. I also show the edge, the affected area is at the center. It appears like it might have been crimped on the obverse but I see no effect on the reverse. The " Cud" blob seems inordinately large for such a small rim disturbance. Appreciate any comments. Thanks in advance.

The peripheral ridge at the ES in STATES on the reverse looks dented, too.

If so, it would be damage rather than a monster Cud.

Hard for me to say on this one:

Would a hit on the rim push that much metal onto the obverse?
Maybe a pic of the rim in that area will help.
Rest in Peace

An edge photo at 6/12 would answer our question.

Really a puzzle, but the coincidence of evident damage and a Cud at the same spot seems unlikely.

Yes, with those indentations on both sides of the edge, that's definitely damage.

If you didn't point it out I'd have never seen the edge shot.

Here's a microphoto of the area.

Here's a closeup of the edge with the obverse facing to the top

Here's a close up of the reverse top (opposite the date area with the cud/damage)

@numismatist6, I think that there was some damage to the rim followed by circulation wear and therefore it is hard to tell if there was also a Cud when this guy left the mint. This particular area, if a Cud, would be a little unusual in shape. As it turns out, there is not a single example of a Walking Liberty with a Cud on the cuds-on-coins website. My advice is to contact them and let them decide what they think it is. If they agree Cud, then you will have not only a pic on their website, but the entire category to yourself.

Take Spence's advice. I would contact cuds-on-coins.com and see if they're interested in your coin for pictures.
