I came across this 1968 Canadian nickel that the beaver on the reverse is showing doubling on its head. Everything else on the reverse is crisp with no signs of MD at all. I am curious as to your thoughts on this as this isn't MD as it is not shelf like. The doubling is NOT reduced in size so its almost making me think it could be an over abrated die. I don't believe its from a high bounce from the die either. However, I have been wrong many times! Insight please.

I'm wondering what this weird "doubling" could be. My thought was Die Deterioration Doubling, but I'm not sure on this.

Hopefully, you'll get more responses, because I'm on the same boat as you right now. Can someone please help my pal Jim?

Unless I could see it in hand, I can't tell. I see the doubling of the beaver, unless it is just reflection. It could be Die Deterioration Doubling, but the photos aren't clear enough/

Okie, DDD was my first thought but the whiskers aren't showing that it's DDD. The doubling is not a shadow and not shelf like most MD coins we see. It is high and rounded and not reduced in size. I'm pretty baffled with this one.

I went to coinsandcanada.com and they do show a double headed beaver like the one I have. Pretty neat find.
