How do I tell if this is PMD or something else?

There are two different issues with your coin. The '0' looks like a Struck Through Grease issue. When the die is partly filled then the device would not be formed. The mint mark is a different issue. It has to do with the post that forms the center of the mint mark breaking off: So question: Why do I not think that both are a Grease Fill issue? Because a Grease Fill issue would make the mint mark disappear just like the '0' if that were the case. So it is two different issues.

What's poking out the top of the mint mark though, anyone see that?

Quote: What's poking out the top of the mint mark though, anyone see that? Could it be an RPM? The MM looks to be in almost the exact same position as RPM-001 on VV.

I can see that thing poking out of the mint Mark. Is this an RPM?

I was thinking the same thing Roy, it looks like another stage of variety vistas 001! I'm pretty sure. Not 100%

Slightly off-topic here, but what did you use to get such a good close-up photo? I've never really gotten a straight answer or recommendation for getting good zoomed photos that also meet the small size limit. My iphone5 sure won't do it.

The post that connects to the die sometimes when it breaks off, it takes part of the base of the post part from the die. (breaking off lower) When this happens a void is opened, so when the mint mark is shaped, the missing post area and the void of the die, towers over the mint mark. That is what you are seeing. The that area was hit by another coin and altered that area on the mint mark. Not a rpm.

I sent James Wiles an update on the die. Sent the side by side and how he might include this on his site. He may want to see. But we'll wait for him to respond first.
