Hi all,

So, I am still trying to learn to recognize doubling, and what the doubling is from...

Anyways I found this 2016 quarter which has some doubling on the reverse, and since the devices are not raised I am not quite sure how to look at this coin doubling and what kind of doubling is going on?

I noted there is no DDR errors for this coin...

Can someone let me know what is is causing the doubling on the lettering here?

Thanks!!

I am assuming it is just MD, and that this is what it looks like on devices that are pushed into the metal rather than raised... since doubling is all pushed out towards rim?

Haven't looked at too many newer quarters... so, I haven't really seen this before...

Or is this maybe just worn out die? I am thinking I see a few steps(?) on the the doubling, but can't tell if they are shelf like...?

I can provide more pics of the coin is needed, just thought I would start by showing these...

Eye4Eye, you're correct. It's Machine Doubling. When Machine Doubling happens on incuse devices, it's enlarge in size, instead of being reduced in size. On non-incuse devices, Machine Doubling reduces the devices, causing them to be shelflike in appearance.

You're very welcome! Now you know what Machine Doubling looks like on incuse devices. This will trick you at first, but then you'll know it's Machine Doubling.
