iOS (iPhones/iPads) is notorious for wanting to upload everything with the wrong orientation. It is beyond annoying and I have no idea how to fix it because I am Android.

Pixels are the dots that make up an image. The number of pixels tells you how tall and wide the image is. Your best bet is to make the image 800 x 800 and hope iOS leaves the orientation alone when you upload it.

Have you tried the Free Image Optimizer?

Imag8r.
Load your image from iPhone Camera. Click on Edit. Find the square (picture frame with arrows at the top right and bottom left). Click on that. Find the white box with an arrow at the top right. Click on that and you rotate the photo to any position you want. Click done, and your are all set.
