I have a friend that just got a Nikon D80 but no software for it. It seems to take decent photos from what I have seen. We however are having a hard time tethering it to a computer and shooting remotely using the computer. Upon searching the net I can find no reliable programs to use to do this.

I have downloaded the Nikon software package this camera was supposed to come with, but the program that comes with it will not recognize the D80. It did DL the driver though, so at least the comp recognizes it now when plugged in.

Are there any programs that can allow the D80 to tether to a comp to remote shoot like Canons can?

Thanks...Mont.

MC...sorry but the D80 does not have Live View capability, which is the key feature for being able to tether and remote shoot. The D90 was first Nikon with Live View.

Thank you.

My friend is visiting us and I wanted to compare my Canon Eos T3 to it. Was gonna see which one took better coin photos. Guess I will just delete the Nikon software and forget about it.

I wish I had just asked here in the first place. Instead I spent several hours trying to get it to work and searching the net for directions. Nothing on the net actually said this was not possible to do with this camera. I did get one generic program to get the camera to shoot photos with it...but the live view function would not work.

That's a bit of a shame considering the capabilities of the D80. Although, for an "old" camera, I would not mind having a D90.

My wife recently got a couple cameras. The first was a Nikon 1 V1. To me, it is crap, and is now already gone (resold). The next is a Fujifilm X10. It is about 7 years old, but it has a Super Macro mode we briefly tested that allowed focusing on the subject within about 1/2". That's pretty nuts, but I have not not tried using it for macro shots of coins yet.

Maybe someone else has experience with it or something similar.

The X10 has a far superior build quality than the V1, as well.

MontCollector could you do me a favor. take a picture of the cable connectors on the side of the camera. there might be a way to tether this camera. the thing is. is that it real wont be tethered. but there may be away to attach to a monitor for coin display. then with a remote control take the pictures. I have done that in the past.
