As a child, my great aunt and uncle gave me various coins from their travels. I've held on to them all these years and recently got them out to show my oldest son. I've attached two pictures of the front and back of a coin that I'm not sure of. I don't know where it's from or what time period. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The coin purports to be from Judea from the time of Augustus. Will need much clearer pictures to say if genuine or not.

@tagherus, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes in-focus pics would be awesome. Thx!

My wife brought a couple of those back from a Holy Lands tour in '86, buy 'em at the tourist kiosks.

First, thank you all for the kind and speedy replies. Second, I tried to take a couple pics on a white background, hoping that will help with identification. Thanks again!

Ok still kinda fuzzy, but it kinda looks like the word COPY was stamped into one side. Can you please confirm that?

It's a replica of a prutah issued by Coponius, under Augustus as Echizento says. Sometimes these are sold with a stamped "COPY" as in this one, to the right of grain ear: http://www.coinsofourpast.com/produ...nius-6-9-ad/

As Spence points out it appears there's a stamp on the OP coin.

Here's another replica: https://coinreplicas.com/product/wi...rutah-6-a-d/

I also see the word copy. Genuine examples are not all that expensive so if you are interested in acquiring one you can find them for sale on Vcoins.com
