You see a split at the ens of devices, but are they increased in size from a normal digit? No, so it CAN"T be hub doubling. Doubling doesn't generally happen in the central high point of a device, just doesn't. The exception is the eyelid and ears. Those creases in the devices are caused by die flow (deterioration), as the metal flows to the outward edges, device break down in integrity. They split, the sides are angled more, like in the Poorman's Doubling of the 1955 and 1953.

Usually the reason for the eyelids and ears to be affected happens during the dies creation. A die misalignment from the hub makes an indenting in the new die. The second and third hubing does remove this because it is incuse on the die. Thus an extra eyelid or ear is on the die on the multi-hub dies.
On the single squeeze dies, it is similar, but different. The die is not exactly in the correct position when the new die was made. So when it starts, it makes a light kiss on the die (leaving an indentation on the die) but the hub snaps back into the correct alignment, making the completed die. The problem? The areas in the center of the die that has the kiss before leaving an indent, doesn't look normal. Other areas of the die is altered. This happens on the Memorial bar cents, the date and Liberty alterations. They call this class 9 hub doubling.
Other times, a second Hibbing is done by the machinist. He notes the misalignment, but backs off the hub. Then restarting the process. This alters many more devices, creating a different type of doubled die. Example?
