Hello, I'm interested in this coin but Heritage prices are all over the place. Based on grade and eye appeal, what would you be willing to spend? It's in an NGC holder labeled MS-63. For now I won't say what the seller is asking so I can get "cleaner" opinions. Edited by USArmyParatrooper 06/23/2008 3:43 pm

The PCGS guide gives it at 875, so NGC probably close. CVonline gives it at 1000, nice luster and strike so would probably get CAC if one wanted. I would offer it starting at 850. Buy it now maybe a 100 more, $950. If I was buying I would like it under 800.

That is a very beautiful coin.
Nice clear pics. Me personally? I'd pay a bit on the high side if I had to. Too bad you can't hold it in your hand before you buy it. You don't see coins like this one every day.

That's a good looking coin with a lot of eye appeal. If I were interested I'd probably be willing to pay on the high end of whatever range there is for the grade. Unfortunately, when you do that you might be better off with the next higher grade.

$550 to $650 is all I would pay for it. Why, I don't want to pay too much for pennies and yes, I'd have to hold it in my hand, but even then, I'd say these prices are about right. MS60 is $340 in Red Book. Is it better than MS60? I don't know. MS60 is mint state. MS63 is $700 Red Book without being slabbed. I would say it was somewhere between MS60 and MS63, wouldn't you? Proof-63 is listed as $8,500. If it was a proof it would be listed as such. I still say $550 to $650. I'd start at $500. Thats still a lot of cash for a Flying Eagle penny.

A PCGS MS-63 went for $650 on Teletrade last month, I personally like this one, but nowhere near $900 worth.

It's on BIN for $775. On Heritage I've seen them WELL over and under that price.

MS61-63 looks about right. But then I would say that if you have any qualms about spending that much for this for this particular speciman, I'd wait until another one came along that you couldn't pass up. Heritage has a few up at the moment in this MS grade range.

It looks, I can't enlarge the picture, like the variety with the wing (at top) buffed off. This is the 1857 that would be used for the 1858/7 the following year. If so, nice coin.
