Someone must have good intel on Mint releases!

Recently many red poppy $2 coins went on sale and I saw this today!

Considering the red poppy $2 coin was going for $50-$60 each, the set seems like a bargain... B)]

*Those who collect these at face value are very wise!

The red poppy coins are as rare as hen's tooth. I didn't find any but my mate managed to find a couple and he was generous enough to exchange them at face.

It is a good buy? I haven't been keeping up with the values of the coins individually.

Do we know of the coins are sealed in like a mint set?

Just wondering how this is going to work ... if this is a commemorative set then won't all these 'new' coins have to be dated 2018 to mark the $2 anniversary year?

I suspect this will be a case of old dies to be pulled out from storage to be 'restruck'. I believe this has been done before. Otherwise RAM can easily purchase some old stocks from dealers...

Are you referring to the obverse being re-struck as well?
Also if we're looking at 30,000 sets, which dealers are you referring to in regards to purchasing old stocks?

If you follow the link to the RAMint site, it shows two different 2018 obverses. I would assume all of these are 2018 dated.

This confirms what I was thinking.

It will be interesting to see whether these will go up in value. But at 30,000 mintige, it's hard to say. I feel as though they will though (as it is a nice collector's piece). Although on second thought, the red poppy had a mintage of 500,000, and we all know how the price went on that...

With the help of Woolworths, I have managed to make up two complete sets, mostly over the counter, some from circulation,
all for two Dollars face value each, also included the May Gibbs series.

My sets do not have the advantage of the made for purpose presentation card.

I would be surprised if this set appreciates significantly or at all. The old adage, oft repeated on the various discussions on this board that "If it was made to be collectible... It probably isn't" applies full force here.

Circulating commemoratives are different breed and fall into the hands of everyone though regular daily transactions and if they are attractive, will spend the rest of their existence in a collection or piggy bank somewhere until returned to circulation at times of financial strife or estate dissolution.

Additionally, circulating commemoratives hit the street at face value. This set already has a 1.5x multiplier on face value baked in.

I would expect 30K collectible items to be much more available than 500K circulating commemoratives.

I don't mind if the carded sets or the coins pulled from circulation don't turn out to be ever valued at much more than face value.
I just have fun collecting them, for not much outlay.

I do like these particular $2 coins coins- eye catching colours and lovely designs.

Nowadays it's so hard to get change - I live on paywave/ paypass!
