On yours there isn't any movement seen in the serifs(tips) or any separation inside the curves as in VVs pix. The "dot" above the lower serif is an issue with a broken punch being used. Remember, mintmarks were applied to the dies by hand as the final process. The "puncheon" may have been used on many different years, they wore down, chipped or broke. The areas inside the curved areas of the S punch were real suceptable to this type of chipping.

Tip of the day:When wondering if a certain mark on the mint mark is a damaged punch issue, check listed RPMs on a site. Note if you see it on all/some of the examples that are attributed. Keep in mind these had nothing to do with the RPM. They are just from a damaged punch. Some years 2/3 different styles of punches were used. When you question this, go to Variety Vista and check on the doubled die areas menu and find "Mint mark Varieties." Then you will know if different styles were used that year. 1946 was one of these years where three different ones were used:

But on V.V, you can see the different styles in numbered order. (MMS-000) These resources we use for information for the forum.

@Bate. You must be going through a huge number of Lincoln cents in the past couple of weeks. Have you been keeping track?
