The only cents made with an 'S' were from San Francisco. So it couldn't be a D/S. But it is a damaged mint mark as already mentioned. First two images looked interesting, but the last two showed us what we need to see. Great images though.

Just Post Strike Damage. You can see the pushed and flattened metal on the mint mark. Worth face value.

They did have over mint marks as the dies were made in Philly and mint marks were added there also. But in 1984, they San Francisco mint was using the 'S' mints for proof coins only. That last two on John's list you posted, the 1980 was determined to not be an OM. He mentioned that is was deleted on his site. The 1981 I've never seen what he is showing on that one. Someone gave me one, I still couldn't see it. So that takes us back to 1956.
