I have sold Cuban coins (perfectly legal to do so in Canada) by listing the item as being from "Cigarland"...

I've sold coins of both Iran and Syria to U.S. buyers with no issue, but maybe that was before ebay tightened up their policies (couple of years ago).
At one time I think Sudan was also on their verboten list, but if you called those North Africa Camel Rider, that was enough to keep them under the radar.
Agree it is a silly policy, unless it's the Iranian mint selling the coins.

A few things...

Iran pieces are perfectly fine to sell through ebay to U.S. addresses only, I have no idea on why this policy is so...

Syrian coins have no restrictions.

Sudan is still on that list.

Yes, it's a simple word-detection filter that blocks you. Call them "cuba" (lowercase C), "Kuba", "{uba" or "the large island south of Florida" and your listing won't be auto-blocked - but it might get reported, which would probably get you NARUed.

There are numerous ways to go around it, but they clearly have someone manually going through occasionally to check workarounds. I had a high dollar PCGS Cuban piece I listed as 'IslaCuba', which listed, and promptly sold. 3 weeks later, I received an email stating that my listing had been removed (even though it was over), and I was receiving an official warning that going around the ban again in the future would result in the loss of 'selling privileges' on my account. I did a quick search through ebay following that, and every single variant, in both currently listed and sold had been removed. Clearly, someone had gone through manually...

Long story short, I have a pretty large box of Cuban pieces that just go out at shows!

I will tell you from personal experience, you are just ASKING for trouble listing coins from Cuba, particularly if PayPal figures it out.

Just abide by the rules. I assure you it will be better.

Yep, I lost that battle long ago.
Last thing you want to do is relist after ebay has removed your listing.
That's a direct road to a permanent suspension.

Strange that the lower case version gets through their filter. That would have been one of the first things I'd test.

I suspect it might have something to do with "cuba" being an actual word, in Spanish - meaning "tub, barrel or cask".

A lot of them are listed as "world coin" and the denomination and year, e.g. "world coin 1992 3 pesos"

The reinstatement of US anti-Cuban embargoes is to blame.

I have several Cuban coins in my collection, and they're not really awesome condition, but I can't expand it anytime soon, either, unless I get really lucky and find those "hidden" listings.

Perhaps the way how it's going, maybe Chinese coins will be next.

Definitely not true. Where's your source?

The following advice, given above, is absolutely correct.

"Iran pieces are perfectly fine to sell through ebay to U.S. addresses only, I have no idea on why this policy is so...

Syrian coins have no restrictions."

Pre-Castro coins from Cuba simply put the name of the then president in the listing title. That's what serious buyers will use as the search term, along with date and denomination.

Hmm... I tried searching ebay for "Batista coin" but I think I got the wrong Batista...

Very common and understandable error Johnathan55.

After Grau resigned in 1934, (former) Sergeant Fulgencio Batista dominated Cuban politics for the next 25 years mostly via puppet-presidents. He was formally president only from 1940-1944.

You happened to have his son come up in search results because the father and son share the same name so you got Fulgencio Batista Junior, better known as "El Speedo". Batista Senior, being the only white president of Cuba, disowned his son because he is orange. Senior thought his wife had been unfaithful.

"El Speedo" did return to Cuba once to face an aged Castro in a cage match for the title belt of Cuba but lost due to disqualification. He has never returned and is still very orange.
